Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) has always been an area of great interest for our Clinical Director, Todd Addleson, going back to his early days as a school counselor in the 1990’s. Todd has continued to explore and utilize aspects of ACT in his personal and professional life, and had the fortune to participate in a small intensive workshop this past Spring led by Steven Hayes. As other members of the IBP team have also developed their own interests and knowledge in ACT, we have started to integrate ACT practices into a variety of IBP systems including:
1) ABA skill acquisition programs (e.g., the PEAK curriculum)
2) ABA therapy with an emphasis on self-management (e.g. the AIM curriculum)
3) Parent-training
4) Staff training and professional development
We were very excited to formally kick-off this initiative last week during all-team staff training (followed by an awesome BBQ hosted by Sami Henry!), and we will continue to develop and make ACT related resources available to team members and integrate an ACT focus into ongoing training and supervision systems!
